This Project began as a, somewhat tardy, reaction to the rot in our contemporary use of language and in our conduct of "civil discourse. This blog will explain about this, later on. For now, with the readers' time in mind, we will describe the insight born of discouragement with our governance of our society. [later on, too]
The insight was that we had been defining the problem to fit our plausible capacity to address it. Like almost everybody who was not a fan, we fixated on the wholesale, at least detachment of political and policy speech from objective facts which, of course, has always been a feature of public and private life, but those afflicted were generally aware they were promoting unfortunate outcomes. Our engagement with the ongoing reaction to the NMP (new media paradigm), plus the realization that we were, most of us, living/working/caring within a civilization evolving toward decadence.
["decadence" has an expanded meaning, here....]
Decadent societies are inherently "lazy" and unambitious. Every non-tribal society we know of-- excluding those destroyed before decadence-- has eventually failed to develop the competencies at sufficient scale to solve whatever existential stress had presented itself.
Our own civilization has, we assert [defence of this in a future post] flirted with decadence or disaster several times, only to be rescued by new technology, or political innovation, or the appropriation of new land or resources. There has been room (certain natives excepted) in the planetary ecosystem for what is now our global civilization to evolve using these developments.
Today, we have or may capabilities, some of which are as profound as the development/co-evolution of language and early societies.
